In-Character Information

Name: Chiyo (Vaporeon)
Game/Series: Pokemon
Canon Point: Um... is it ok if I say, "none?"
Teacher/Student/Other: Student
Age: 18
Grade Level/Class Taught/Job: Senior
Dorm or Living Arrangement: Dorms, please. :)

Personality:
Having grown up under the care of a loving, elderly couple, Chiyo developed a very gentle and modest personality. By always tending to her trainers and remaining by their side, Chiyo prefers times of peace and quality time with friends over adventures and battles. In fact, she has hardly ever had any experience in the area of battling, and would prefer to avoid battles, if at all possible. That is, to say, she could be seen as a pacifist that would rather talk things out than to brawl it out. But, if her trainers were to ever be in danger, Chiyo would put her life on the line without a moment's hesitation, in spite of her lack of fighting experience. She would do anything to protect those who are precious to her.

With her modest nature, Chiyo isn't one who can easily accept compliments, and would normally like to beg to differ as she shies away from embarrassment (and she is very easily embarrassed). Even though she can't handle compliments, she can sincerely hand them out with ease, like her loving trainer (whom she refers to as, "Grandmother" and the other being "Grandfather.") Furthermore, because of all the time she spent with her grandmother, she adopted many of her traits; such as being caring of others, compassionate, and conservative. Or, you could simply say that Chiyo is like a grandmother herself, in spite of her young age.

However, as time went by and her trainers passed away, Chiyo experienced a great many instances of tragedy, drama, and loneliness. The descendants of Chiyo's trainers were less kind and welcoming, and through their apathy and abuse, caused Chiyo to become frail and fearful of others--whether Pokemon or human. Because she couldn't understand the relationship between her trainers and their relatives, Chiyo slowly grew to question and doubt humans. Mainly, a large part of the doubt grew from the mistreatment of the relatives. Having seen how dark humans could be, and without the warm presence of her trainers to help her, Chiyo lost the ability to trust and think well of others. Now, she has become a very timid character that's suspicious of anything and anyone. Even though she would like to believe in the best of people, she can't overcome her pessimism and hesitance to open up to them.

[Revision/Addition]
Therefore it goes without saying that having been out of contact with humans for a while (not that she had many to begin with), Chiyo lacks the experience and ability to judge others well. She makes assumptions quickly, will most likely believe in stereotypes and rumors, and is easily influenced. For a while, she'll get confused when treated with kindness, but if she can gain constant exposure to kind acts and words, then she'll be able to heal faster and learn to trust. Needless to say, though trust will take time to build, it can quickly break down from an act of betrayal or fall backwards from negative experiences no matter from who or what. No matter how much she'll come to trust someone, she'll always have that inkling of doubt that something will surely go terribly wrong.

On the other hand, in spite of her skepticism and wariness of others, she'll sometimes act out of pure habit to certain situations. Such habits come from her 'grandmotherly traits,' like wiping food off your cheek if she sees it, picking up after others, and patting dust or dirt off you. Though, as she's only done such things as a Pokemon, you can imagine her cleaning involves gentle pats with her tail and a couple licks. Other typical behavior from Chiyo is diving into water or melting when panicked, as she's used to running away in the face of danger. If there's no water available, she'll be anchored in place, flailing about until she figures out what to do (which will normally be to run and hide). In fight or flight situations, she'll opt for flight. Unless, that is, there's someone she feels obligated to protect.

When she is thinking and observing others, she likes to do random acts of kindness, especially when she thinks she can help others. She always liked seeing her trainers smile whenever she did something for them, and that liking transferred over to wanting to make people happy. So, she would often take the time to find ways to leave little pleasant surprises whenever she can and wants. Now that she's back in society again, she'll find herself occasionally reverting back to her old traits and habits. To those who treat her well, she'll want to return the favor. Or, if she simply sees that you're cold, she'll even knit you a scarf and place it by your door when you aren't looking. The only thing she'll fear is if you'll have a negative reaction. Hence, the secrecy. BUT, there is an exception where she may linger and watch you doing household chores, wondering if it's okay for her to help and if you won't kill her. When grandma was still around, Chiyo would help her with the housework as much as possible, especially when it came to watering the garden. Even until she came to Smash, she still managed to water it everyday as she'd hate to see the plants and flowers wither. When she's not worried about the consequences, she's quite the obedient little goody-goody. She's just a little on the quiet, non-risk taking side.

Other things she enjoys are stories, listening to them in particular as she was read to by grandma on a daily basis. If you happen to read out or tell a fun story, you can expect her to listen in with a keen ear. That, or she'll often be out fantasizing on her own of wonderful tales, hoping to live them out one day.

Now that she's come to Smash, she'd like to be able to open up to people again and trust in them as she did in the past. She dislikes her current self for being distrustful and weak. Therefore, she wants to become a strong enough person that won't easily be shaken or broken by others. As a result, she hopes to make friends and good relations again. It would be wonderful for her if she could feel valued and loved once more, while also having people to return the same sentiments to.

Backstory:
In the region of Kanto, Chiyo was taken in under the tender care of an elderly couple as a small Eevee. As they were situated in a cabin by a lake, Chiyo developed a fascination for water and would always play in it in her free time. To allow her to fully enjoy the lake, Chiyo's trainers decided to evolve her into a Vaporeon, and they would all spend their time together outdoors as a family. It was a peaceful and joyful life for the three of them, and the days would go by without a hitch. Except... for the days that her trainer's children would visit.

Considering the age of her trainers, Chiyo fondly thought of them as her grandparents; so when their children and grandchildren would visit, Chiyo considered them as her own relatives. Under the loving environment of the grandparents, Chiyo grew up with the ideals that everyone, no matter Pokemon or humans, are the same. That they're all alive, equal, and should learn to live together in harmony. However, the grandparents' kin, in spite of having been taught the same ideals and principles, did not believe in it. Far from it, in fact, as they believed parents must give what their children want and Pokemon must do as the humans want. Whenever they came for a visit (which was very rare), they always came with requests--requests that quickly became demands--and would always argue with the grandparents over property and inheritances. Such conflicts and complications would create unease and confusion in Chiyo, as she'd wonder why the children would treat their parents so harshly and coldly. Seeing how greedy and selfish some humans can be scared Chiyo, but her grandparents would manage to find a way to reassure and calm her down once the kids were away.

Yet, her days of happiness with her trainers could only last so long with their old age. Time was cruel, and eventually Grandfather passed away first. Chiyo did all that she could to keep Grandmother happy and from feeling lonely. Together, they kept each other company and helped each other heal over the passing, but soon Grandmother's body grew weak and she became bedridden with pneumonia. Chiyo did the best she could to help her sickly trainer, but could only do so much in her form and was left with simply staying by her trainer's side, praying for her good health. As Grandmother's condition worsened, Chiyo grew distressed and desperate, not knowing what to do. She constantly wondered why no one came to visit, even after Grandmother did her best to make a phone call to her kids. In the end, Chiyo suffered as she watched her beloved Grandmother pass away.

Unsure of what to do with the body, Chiyo kept close guard of it at the foot of the bed. Deep down, she resented that no one came to help her trainer in her time of need, and yet others always seemed to come to her demanding her help as they pleased. When her relatives finally came days later, Chiyo refused to allow them to come into the room with all her might. But as she lacked battle experience, she was easily overtaken by their Pokemon and beaten. She bristled at their rudeness to the passing of the grandparents and especially at their apathy when discussing who would take possession of what. When it came to light that Chiyo was in the written will to inherit the property of the land she currently resided on, the relatives threw a fit in fury and held no restraint in harming Chiyo. With no way to defend herself, Chiyo took in many critical hits before managing to escape into the lake. In spite of all the electric shocks sent into the water and attacks she suffered, Chiyo persevered and remained within the lake to watch over the cabin that her trainers and she spent their precious days in.

Over time, the relatives left and occasionally dropped by to find ways to take back the property and inflict quite a bit of pain to release frustration. Whenever they were away, Chiyo would spend her days in the cabin in the spot she always kept her trainers company in. Soon, years passed by in her solitude and she became unbearably lonely. Strongly wishing for change and to not be alone again, Chiyo suddenly found herself nearing an unfamiliar tunnel at the bottom of the lake. Without hesitation, she went through it only to find herself at the bottom of Lake Kraken, the tunnel suddenly gone. Confused and seeing that her one option was to simply swim upwards and out of the lake, she stumbled across Smash Academy and decided to grab the opportunity for the change that she so direly wished for.

Anything Else?:
- In her free time, she'll almost always be around or in water, especially the lake (the swimming pool is a little strange for her because of its chlorine).
- She still owns the land she used to live in. As for the garden, she regrets leaving it without someone to tend to it while she's away, but when she can, she'll go back once in a while to water it. Though, she did take some plants and flowers with her to keep in her room.
- Loves sweets, particularly sweet drinks and ice cream (snow cones are fascinating)
- Dislikes spicy food. She will cry if she eats them.
- She'll be in Pokemon form for a while before she can adjust to human form.
- When swimming, Pokemon form is best because in human form, she loses her ability to breathe underwater, which she isn't accustomed to and will end up swallowing too much water or nearly drowning.
- Prefers peaceful places where she can be alone or people-watch
- She is especially wary of grass and electric type Pokemon, 'cause, you know, they could knock her out easily. Jolteons are her worst fears as her trainer's grandson owned one and would always have it shock her for the hell of it to pass the time.
- As her grandmother liked knitting and handicrafts, Chiyo decided to take up the activity as her newfound hobby, seeing as she now has hands in which she can do such activities with.
- She cleans… a lot. She'd even tidy you up if she's not scared of you.

I… I don't think… I'm just… I'm never going to swim in human form again. Please don't misunderstand. It's not that I hate being human; on the contrary, I find it interesting as it brings about a whole new perspective for me to see the world in. It's just that… I didn't expect how different and difficult it was going to be to swim as one. As a water Pokemon, well at least as a Vaporeon, I've never had to consider holding my breath underwater as I swam. So… really, I feel that my spirit has been broken at the fact that I nearly drowned for the first time in my life. To be honest, I don't think I could go through with that experience again. Thus, I think I shall stay in Pokemon form whenever I decide to submerge myself into a body of water.

I really feel like a failure.

But… this also brings another matter to my attention. Does everyone experience such difficulty? Such pains when they cannot swim? Even when water Pokemon use water attacks such as Water Gun, do the ones on the receiving end ever feel as if they're drowning? If so, then that is terrible. I don't think I could ever use such moves again, either.

I really feel ashamed… How could this have happened to me? Has this happened here to others before?

Um, and… I know I've said this many times already, but truly… thank you to the one who was there to save me. I cannot thank you enough. Please allow me to repay you in some way. If there is anything that I can do for you, then please let me know.

That aside, would… anyone like assistance in swimming? Of course, I can only help you in Pokemon form… But, if there's no need, then I'll understand… Please pretend I didn't say anything then.

Rocking chairs.

Chiyo let out a soft sigh as she sat down by Lake Kraken. She regretted walking through town on her own earlier in the day, what with all the people around and the ease of getting lost in such a grand place. Fatigue began settling in as she drew in her knees and rested her chin on top of them.

Rocking chairs. It had been so long since she last saw one that she couldn't believe that she nearly forgot about them. When she walked by the antique store, she could've sworn she saw an image of Grandmother sitting comfortably in her rocking chair, swaying gently back and forth as she knitted away. A sense of longing swept over her as she remembered the days of old when she would keep her grandparents company in the living room by their chairs. The memory of the sweet humming of Grandmother easily came back to her ears, and she reproduced the same tune.

Shortly after, she lightly gasped at the realization that she was about to cry. Rubbing a little furiously at her eyes with her arms, Chiyo reprimanded herself. This behavior was exactly what she came here to Smash to improve on. Being weepy and depressed would get her nowhere. But... what she wasn't fully prepared for was how difficult change can be.

She sighed again.
